About Is It Open Today

IsItOpenToday.co.uk answers one question fast: is it open on the bank holiday? We cover 31 of the stores and services people in the UK ask about most, including supermarkets, high-street and DIY chains, cafés, the big banks, Royal Mail and the Post Office, for 17 days from St Andrew's Day 2026 to Boxing Day 2027, separately for England and Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

Why we built it

Bank holidays in the UK are confusing. Scotland and Northern Ireland have bank holidays the rest of the UK doesn't, a holiday at the weekend moves to a substitute weekday, and the law only closes large shops on a couple of days a year. Search results are full of last year's hours and copied lists. We wanted one place that gives a straight answer and shows exactly where it came from.

Who we are

Is It Open Today is a small, independent website. It isn't owned by, affiliated with, or endorsed by any store, bank, government body or other organisation we list. Nobody pays us to include a store or to say it's open.

How we decide an answer

In short: the company's own announcements first, UK trading law second, and "check your local store" when neither gives a clear answer. We never guess, and we never present last year's hours as this year's. Every answer links its source and the date we last checked it (currently 2026-10-16). Right now 186 of 1,082 region-level answers are backed by a source; the rest say "check local" until a store publishes its opening times. Read the full method on How we check hours.

Store names and logos shown on this site are trademarks of their respective owners. We use them only to identify the store an answer is about. Their use doesn't imply any affiliation with or endorsement of Is It Open Today.

How the site is funded

The site may show ads from Google AdSense in future to cover its costs. Ads never change an answer. See our privacy policy for how advertising cookies would work.
